The Heir to the Seven Killers in the City

Chapter 14: Gratitude

Seeing that Qin Yu wasn’t moving, the girl didn’t let go. “You saved me just now and avenged my sister. Judging by your demeanor, you don’t seem like a bad person. I can’t just stand by and watch you die. From the way you fought just now, I can tell you’re a master. But with so many of them, you won’t be able to handle them as easily as you did before. I’ve also heard that their bosses are ruthless criminals—they’re much tougher to deal with than those henchmen from earlier.” While they were still arguing, a commotion in the distance once again shattered the silence. A large group was now marching toward them from the direction the burly man had come from. The man at the front was potbellied, his belly hanging down, his obese body swaying from side to side with every step, yet exuding an air of authority and ferocity from head to toe. This was the second-in-command of the Fire Scorpion Gang, known as “Pan Di Hu”—a nickname earned because, despite his seemingly gentle appearance, he was in fact ruthless and merciless. Standing beside him were two burly men with bare torsos, while behind him was a large circle of men carrying rifles. The Fire Scorpion Gang truly lived up to its reputation—their gear was undeniably impressive. They were all armed with AK-series assault rifles, and their strength was not to be underestimated. Upon spotting several people lying on the ground in the distance, the second-in-command waved his hand, and several men hurried over to the bodies. “They’re dead—just died.” “Damn it, they’ve come after me. Find him for me—I’m going to chop him up and feed him to the fish today. Didn’t that son of a bitch say he’d wait for me?” At that moment, Qin Yu was being dragged into the reed bed by the girl. Hearing the voices from outside, Qin Yu felt an inexplicable thrill. Peering out at Number Two from the reeds, a hint of bloodlust flashed in the corner of his eye. Clenching his fists, Qin Yu was about to step out. The girl sensed the change in Qin Yu and was startled. She pulled him back with all her might, shaking her head frantically to signal him to stay. As they tugged at each other, the reeds began to rustle again at the worst possible moment... “That’s the spot—shoot!” Lao Er wasn’t the burly man who’d just arrived; he’d already heard just how terrifying Qin Yu was. If he hadn’t been worried that word of this might tarnish his reputation, Lao Er would never have risked coming after Qin Yu in the first place. That’s why even the slightest disturbance now caught his attention. In an instant, a barrage of bullets swept through the reed bed where Qin Yu and his men were hiding. After a sustained volley, the Second-in-Command ordered the fire to cease—if anyone had been there, they would have been riddled with bullets by now. He motioned for the next man to go in; upon inspection, the area was completely empty. Only then did the man sent to investigate let out a sigh of relief. He waved at the Second-in-Command, “No one’s here. It was probably just the wind…” Before he could finish his sentence, he spat out a mouthful of blood and slowly collapsed to the ground... What! That’s impossible! How did he die! Did any of you just see a figure? In an instant, the crowd erupted into chaos. The Second Brother took several steps back, looking around warily. After a long while, seeing that there was no further movement in the reed beds, the Second Brother finally sent a few men to investigate. The group crept over to where the man had just died as if they were thieves, but there was still nothing there—only the cool breeze rustling through the reeds. It was an absolute disgrace. Someone had killed a man right in front of Old Two, and in the end, they still didn’t know who the killer was—wasn’t this a *blatant slap in the face*? Furious, the Second-in-Command grabbed a rifle and swept fire across the entire reed bed. Still unwilling to accept defeat, he ordered his men to search the area several more times before reluctantly leaving. He immediately issued an order: once they caught this man, he was to be torn apart by five horses. And so, the name Qin Yu began to spread… As for Qin Yu, Qin Yong was taken aback when he saw the gaping wound. Although he had gained extraordinary speed through the Seven Kills Sutra, he didn’t yet have the confidence to completely dodge bullets—especially not from so many guns at once. The slightest misstep, and he could easily end up riddled with holes. It was Qin Yu’s first time here, and he wasn’t very familiar with the terrain. Just as he felt trapped with no way out, the girl came to his aid, deftly dodging the first wave of bullets. After the man who had come up to Qin Yong made a show of force, she led Qin Yong once again through a passage she had prepared in advance. Once they reached a safe area, Qin Yong took another look at the girl in the light and couldn’t help but admire her. He hadn’t noticed it before, but this girl was truly quite attractive. She was about twenty-five years old, stood 1. 7 meters tall, and had a graceful figure, with her chest swaying with a proud curve. Coupled with her classic oval face and striking features—and the faint traces of blood on her face from her injury—she exuded a captivating, alluring beauty. As he looked at her, Qin Yong found himself completely captivated, until the girl waved her hand in front of his face. Only then did he snap out of it, realizing how rude he’d been. “What happened to you?” “Nothing… it’s nothing…” Qin Yong gave a perfunctory reply and was about to turn and walk away. “Hey, you haven’t even asked my name yet.” Hearing this, Qin Yong stopped in his tracks and shrugged. “Is that really important?” “I…” The girl stammered, as if she wanted to say something but held back. Seeing this, Qin Yong gave a casual smile. “So, what’s your name?” The girl looked delighted. “Lin Xiaorui.” “Oh, I’ve asked my question. I’m off.” Lin Xiaorui stomped her foot in frustration. When had she ever been treated like this? Usually, there were plenty of guys lining up to chase after her, but now that she’d taken the initiative, all she got was this kind of attitude from him. “Don’t you dare leave!” Lin Xiaorui said angrily, pointing at Qin Yong. Qin Yong was once again taken aback. “Hey, lady, do we even know each other? What exactly are you trying to do?” “I, I…” Lin Xiaorui was at a loss for words. After a pause, she said, “I just wanted to thank you properly. Let’s find a place to talk.” “Thank me? Can’t you just say what you need to say right here? I’m busy, so I’m not going to play along with you. You can go thank me on your own.” With that, Qin Yong walked away without looking back. Lin Xiaorui’s face flushed with alternating shades of red and purple as her expression shifted erratically. Watching Qin Yong’s retreating figure, her previously pitiful demeanor gave way to a cold, icy stare. “Hah. We’ll meet again.” Lin Xiaorui said in an icy tone, then vanished into the night. Lin Xiaorui walked quickly, glancing around from time to time. Although it was already late at night, she still moved forward cautiously and briskly. But even so, she couldn’t escape the pair of eyes following her from behind. Those eyes had never left her side, yet she—a highly trained individual—had failed to notice them, continuing to hurry along obliviously. Soon, after passing through several alleys, she stopped in front of a villa. After surveying her surroundings, she knocked on the door. When a man in a black suit opened it, Lin Xiaorui strode inside with an air of arrogance. Qin Yu had been following her the whole way, but now a doubt arose in his mind. Lin Xiaorui must have undergone professional training—there was no question about that. Could this place be the key to her background?
