Chapter 18: The Celestial Fire Sword Master

Chapter 18: The Celestial Fire Sword Master “Whoosh.” Duan Feng mounted his Cloud Leap and swiftly gave chase. Luckily, the Cloud of Somersaults was fast enough; otherwise, he really wouldn’t have been able to catch up. “Huh? What on earth is that? It looks so cool.” Seeing Duan Feng catch up in the blink of an eye, Chu Qingcheng exclaimed in surprise. “Hehe, of course.” Duan Feng chuckled lightly, but didn’t intend to say much more. Before long, the two landed on the summit of a mountain. The area was shrouded in mist, resembling a fairyland. However, to Duan Feng’s surprise, there stood a magnificent, colossal palace atop the peak. Numerous cultivators were already gathered in front of the palace—at least thirty or more. As Duan Feng and Chu Qingcheng landed, many of them cast surprised glances their way. There were two reasons for this. First, the Cloud of Somersaults that Duan Feng was riding was simply too out of the ordinary. As for the second, it was Chu Qingcheng. Her petite frame looked incredibly delicate, yet she was able to transform her spiritual energy into wings—a sight that truly startled many. It must be noted that to “transform spiritual energy into wings,” one must possess the strength of a Sword King. “Follow me.” Chu Qingcheng didn’t stop walking; she continued onward. Duan Feng shrugged and quickly followed behind her. Soon enough, he realized why these people were stationed here. It turned out that in front of the palace stood a thick, pitch-black door. The gate was closed. Judging by the marks on the door, it had clearly been subjected to a frenzied barrage of attacks. But clearly, these attacks hadn’t done much damage. “It’s useless. Don’t waste your time.” Not far from the gate stood a sharp-eyed, white-haired old man. This old man was the most powerful figure here, having reached the Sword King realm. Duan Feng had never seen this old man in his previous life; clearly, he was the reclusive type. He usually kept a low profile, but would often appear at critical moments, such as when the Spirit Treasure emerged. Although the Heavenly Sword Dynasty ostensibly had fewer than five Sword King-level experts, the actual number was certainly higher. “Move aside!” Chu Qingcheng said bluntly. “So young, yet so arrogant.” The white-haired old man gave a cold laugh, but he didn’t stop her; he simply stepped aside. “My job is just to open the door for you. Whether you can get it or not is up to you.” Chu Qingcheng said to Duan Feng, who was following behind her. “Got it,” Duan Feng nodded. He had never intended to rely on Chu Qingcheng to obtain the Spirit Vault. When Chu Qingcheng arrived at the pitch-black gate, everyone’s gaze turned toward her. Of course, the vast majority of them were eager to see her humiliated. It seemed as though that would bring them some sense of satisfaction. Chu Qingcheng stepped up to the gate and, without any pretense, raised her tiny fist and struck. “Thud, thud, thud!” Three faint, muffled thuds echoed... Seeing this, many people wanted to burst out laughing. They couldn’t break through this door no matter how hard they tried—and you think you can do it with just a casual display of your skills? However, their expressions quickly froze. Suddenly, a deafening roar echoed through the air. And under their astonished gazes, the thick, pitch-black door crashed to the ground. “My God, the door opened? It just opened like that?” Exclamations of shock rang out one after another. They never could have imagined things would go so smoothly! “I’m going in.” As soon as the door opened, Duan Feng spoke and dashed inside. “Oh no, that kid’s going to steal the Spirit Vault!” “We can’t let him succeed!” “Charge!” Shouts rang out one after another. Then, their figures darted in like arrows. Many of those present had arrived early, thanks to sheer luck. How could they possibly allow a cultivator who had just arrived to snatch the Spirit Treasure from them? In the long, dim passageway, Duan Feng charged forward at top speed. It was now 100% certain that the Spirit Treasure was inside, so it was a case of first come, first served. “Whoosh! Suddenly, the passageway was filled with a blinding golden light, and arrows shot out rapidly from all directions. “A trap? Child’s play.” Duan Feng executed a flash step, dodging them all. However, the cultivators behind him weren’t so agile. Apart from the white-haired old man, the other cultivators who had charged out first were all struck by the arrows. Those who survived were left crippled. “What incredible agility. Which school does this guy belong to?” The white-haired old man stared at Duan Feng’s retreating figure, his mind filled with confusion. What puzzled him even more was that after the gate was opened, the woman showed no intention of entering. Before long. Duan Feng was the first to traverse the long, dim, trap-filled passageway, arriving before a grand hall. The resplendent palace was shrouded in dust. Clearly, this palace must have a long history. Immediately afterward, the white-haired old man arrived second. Following him, five other cultivators also arrived. Each of these five individuals was no slouch; all had reached the late stage of the Sword Spirit realm. The grand hall marked the end of the path. Everyone looked around, trying to figure out where the Spirit Vault was hidden. Unfortunately, they found nothing. Suddenly, a dazzling light flashed. A shadowy figure appeared before Duan Feng and the others. “I am the Heavenly Fire Sword Venerable of the Soul Sword Continent. Hundreds of years ago, I was hunted down by my enemies, my physical body shattered, and I fled here. Now, I wish to pass on my lifetime of cultivation to one of you.” “As for who that person will be, you must decide for yourselves.” The phantom’s voice, filled with majesty, slowly echoed out. The magnificent aura of cultivation emanating from within it was truly breathtaking. “I am the strongest here; this inheritance rightfully belongs to me,” the white-haired old man stepped forward first and declared coldly. Though the other five looked extremely reluctant, they knew all too well just how vast the gap was between a Sword Spirit and a Sword King. They were well aware of it. Even if the five of them joined forces to attack him, they would likely still be no match for the white-haired old man. “I, Duan Feng, am the first to object!” “The gates of this Spirit Vault were opened by my friend; this legacy should be passed down to me.” Duan Feng roared, his presence overwhelming, showing not a shred of fear. “Hmph. Just because you say she’s your friend doesn’t make it so. Where’s the proof? I could just as easily claim she’s my granddaughter.” The white-haired old man retorted coldly. “Have some decency!” Duan Feng shot the old man a withering glance and shouted. “Hmph, if you don’t agree, come and fight!” Relying on his Sword King-level strength, the white-haired old man didn’t take Duan Feng seriously at all. If Chu Qingcheng were here, he might have shown some caution. But in reality, there were no “ifs.” “Fight then! Who’s afraid of whom?” Duan Feng growled lowly as his massive Xuan Zhong Ruler shot forward, plunging heavily into the ground before him. A colossal aura of battle intent swiftly spread out...
