The Heir to the Seven Killers in the City

Chapter 46: The Hero’s Downfall

Yang Yong took a couple of deep breaths; the dizziness had mostly subsided. He had originally thought that Qin Yu would lose his cool due to a specific reason, and that he could then use his experience and clear-headedness to find an opening to counterattack and win. But now, Qin Yu showed no signs of losing his composure, so even Yang Yong himself felt his chances were dwindling. But Yang Yong had never admitted defeat in his entire life; he had overcome even the greatest difficulties, so this time, he was the one to strike first with a fierce offensive. Though Yang Yong couldn’t match Qin Yu’s momentum and strength, his performance was already at the very limit of what an ordinary human could achieve. The first punch he threw seemed light but was actually packed with power, followed by one punch after another at lightning speed. Even Qin Yu was taken aback by this onslaught; as a result, he dodged the first few punches hastily, losing his rhythm and allowing Yang Yong to press the attack. Seizing the momentum, Yang Yong pressed his advantage, fighting with even greater ferocity. Qin Yu knew full well that if this continued, the tide of the battle would turn in his opponent’s favor. So, gritting his teeth, he weathered several of Yang Yong’s punches and struck with all his might at Yang Yong’s head. Yang Yong reacted quickly, shielding his head with both hands, but he still felt the terrifying force of the blow—a force far beyond that of an ordinary person. Yang Yong was sent flying backward, but he used the momentum to his advantage, leaning back and kicking out with both legs toward Qin Yu’s chest, sending both of them flying backward. While Yang Yong was relatively unscathed, Qin Yu was feeling rather unwell. First, he’d taken several punches from Yang Yong, and now, having been sent flying backward, he felt as if he could barely catch his breath. But regardless of who came out worse in the exchange, Yang Yong appeared more exhausted than Qin Yu—after all, the physical constitution of an ordinary person simply couldn’t compare to that of a monster. As Qin Yu coughed up a mouthful of fresh blood from his chest, he felt as though he were unleashing an endless stream of power. His body suddenly radiated a red glow, visible with striking clarity in the darkness of the night. Yang Yong stared, momentarily stunned. He knew exactly what this meant; he knew that if he could seize the opportunity, this would be his moment to win. Without it, he would likely be beaten to a pulp. Qin Yu pushed off with both feet and, with a whoosh, moved like a shadow to Yang Yong’s side. Feeling as though he possessed boundless strength, he landed a punch that left Yang Yong struggling to withstand the blow. Yang Yong realized he’d probably made a mistake. If seeking an opening had been a fair fight between equals, the current battle was clearly anything but—it was a one-sided rout. How could he possibly win now? Seeing that Yang Yong couldn’t hold his ground, Qin Yu grew increasingly ferocious. Yang Yong was now nothing more than a human punching bag, pounded back and forth by Qin Yu until he finally collapsed to the ground, unable to take it any longer. Yang Yong felt as though his life had come to an end right there. Next, this beast would tear him in half. Just as he was thinking this, Qin Yu had already stepped right up to him. The red light was eerily ominous, and Yang Yong found himself thinking that perhaps this wasn’t so bad after all. He closed his eyes, and then he knew nothing more. But things didn’t turn out the way he’d imagined. Qin Yu stopped his fist mid-strike; his hand was still trembling, and Yang Yong could even hear him swallowing. Time seemed to stand still for a long moment, and Yang Yong had long since lost the strength to fight back. Finally, Qin Yu, panting heavily, withdrew his fist, and the red glow on his body had completely vanished. Qin Yu suddenly felt incredibly at ease, so he let out a hearty laugh. Yang Yong, who had been staring blankly for a moment, finally realized what Qin Yu had accomplished; he knew just how rare it was to achieve something like that. “Even though I lost, I have to congratulate you on your victory. Look—you’ve won everything,” Yang Yong said with a touch of humor, even at a time like this. Qin Yu was now drenched in sweat, but he felt a pleasant ache throughout his body, so he was more than willing to chat with the guy he’d just fought to the point of exhaustion. “Yeah, it really wasn’t easy. But I admire you—an ordinary person who’s this good. Oh, wait—we’re actually the same kind of person,” he said. “Give it a rest. If we were the same kind of people, you’d be the one lying on the ground right now. You remind me of myself when I was young, but you’re better than I was. Don’t let external appearances fool you,” Yang Yong suddenly remarked. Although Qin Yu truly hated the Fire Scorpion Gang and wanted to bring Yang Yong to justice, he still felt a sense of admiration at that moment. So he relaxed and spoke to him as if he were a friend: “I could never be like you. If I were like you, I might as well be dead.” “I’m a scumbag, sure, but Lin Hao’s a scumbag too. You shouldn’t be hanging around him,” Yang Yong continued. Qin Yu waved his hand and said, “I don’t want to be, but before, he had that video of me killing your second brother, and now I’m completely smitten with his adopted daughter.” Qin Yu spoke without holding back, so he told Yang Yong everything that had happened. As Yang Yong listened, he paused for a moment when Qin Yu mentioned Lin Xiaorui. He recalled how Lin Hao—who, according to his original plan, wasn’t supposed to make a move just yet—had suddenly changed his mind. It seemed as if something had occurred to him, and he said, “You’re deeply entangled in this. I’m afraid it’ll be very hard for you to extricate yourself.” “I know, but I can’t just let others push me around because of that. I still have to try my best to fight back,” Qin Yu said. At that moment, Yang Yong felt that he was really just too much like his younger self, so he couldn’t help but start to dislike who he had become, thinking to himself, “It really feels like I’m regressing the older I get.” Just as they were speaking, a group of people in police uniforms approached from the distance and immediately pointed their guns at Qin Yu and Yang Yong. “Don’t shoot—we’re on your side.” Seeing the police arrive, Qin Yu knew his mission was nearly complete, while for Yang Yong, another chapter of his life was likely about to begin—after all, every hero’s story must eventually come to an end. Afterward, Qin Yu basked in the glory of being a hero, treated with respect everywhere he went. The so-called police interview was wrapped up very quickly, and since it was already late, Qin Yu ended up spending the night at the Police Station. At dawn, Qin Yu felt himself being woken up by someone—it was Lin Xiaorui. Seeing Qin Yu awake, she couldn’t help but shed tears. Startled, Qin Yu immediately pulled her into his arms. “It’s okay. I’m fine, aren’t I?” Qin Yu reassured her. “You’re so annoying! Why didn’t you tell me what was going on? Do you have any idea how worried I was? And you smell awful and you’re filthy—go take a shower right now.” Seeing that she was “disgusted” by him, Qin Yu stuck out his tongue. Then, with a mischievous grin, he said, “Let’s take a shower together when we get home!” Qin Yu took Lin Xiaorui’s hand and walked out of the police station, where Zhang Xiaofei and Zhang Qiqi were waiting outside. The moment Zhang Xiaofei saw Qin Yu, he exploded with anger: “Damn it! You’ve driven my car into this state? You’ve even scratched off two patches of paint.” Then the four of them were swept up in a wave of joy—though, of course, only three of them were truly happy. At that moment, although Zhang Qiqi looked radiant on the outside, her heart was crying.
