The Heir to the Seven Killers in the City

Chapter 29: Conspiracy

The Fire Scorpion Gang member spoke frantically, but before he could finish, smoke had already reached the third floor. Just as everyone was struck with terror, Qin Yu sprang into action. Qin Yu let out a loud shout, and the two men restraining him were flung backward. Only then did the Fire Scorpion Gang members finally react. In the chaos, two shots were already fired. Qin Yu had intended to leap up and rush to their side, but just as he tried to rise, an unbearable, stabbing pain shot through his left leg. With no other choice, he lifted the two men who had just been thrown aside, using them as shields against the two shots, then roared and hurled them toward the rest of the gang. Gritting his teeth against the pain, he used the strength in the rest of his body to throw himself toward the table, where he reached for the pistol lying there. Qin Yu was no longer the novice who hadn’t even known how to use a handgun back then. Although he hadn’t undergone any special training, thanks to his exceptional physical abilities, handling the gun wasn’t all that difficult. Taking advantage of the chaos, he fired several shots in quick succession and managed to kill everyone else. Now, the entire room was empty except for Qin Yu and the Fire Scorpion Gang’s second-in-command. Qin Yu aimed his pistol at the second-in-command, who, in his panic, also fumbled for his own pistol and aimed it at Qin Yu. The Second-in-Command’s hand was trembling slightly, but he still managed to force a smile and said, “Kid, you’ve got some skills. Looks like you came prepared.” “Everyone knows the Fire Scorpion Gang’s Second-in-Command is incredibly cunning. If I didn’t have a sure thing, how could I dare to storm the lion’s den?” Qin Yu said. “Kid, let’s not even talk about how this will end in mutual destruction. Even if you kill me, what then? Can you get out of here? Can you even walk out?” The Fire Scorpion Gang’s Second-in-Command was indeed quite capable; even at this moment, he was still playing mind games. What he said was true—if Qin Yu showed even the slightest hesitation, he might still have a chance to survive. Qin Yu, however, replied nonchalantly, “Don’t worry about that, Second Brother. This hermit has a plan of his own.” He continued, “And Second Brother, there’s no need to wait. The fire looks pretty intense—they’ll be busy for a while. Don’t count on them noticing any commotion. This is the best soundproofed room in the entire Honghan Restaurant—you designed it yourself. Have you forgotten?” These few words completely shattered the Fire Scorpion Gang’s second-in-command’s psychological defenses. Gritting his teeth, his voice almost failing him, he said, “You brat, don’t push your luck. If it comes to it, we’ll go down together. Do I look like the kind of man who’s afraid of death? I…” “Bang, bang”—two gunshots rang out from different directions, and both men collapsed to the ground. The Fire Scorpion Gang’s second-in-command was shot squarely in the forehead and had already stopped breathing. As for Qin Yu, at the critical moment, he managed to shield his head with his hand, avoiding the fatal blow; he was only shot in the right arm. “Damn it! Ah!” Qin Yu lay on the ground, gasping for air. At that moment, he felt as if he were about to die; every breath brought excruciating pain. His ears were ringing, but he could still hear the beeping sound coming from outside the window. The truth was that the Fire Scorpion Gang’s second-in-command was waiting—and wasn’t Qin Yu waiting, too? He was waiting for that beeping car horn. Qin Yu felt as if he were drawing on the last ounce of strength in his life as he sat up. “Ah, get the hell up!” Relying solely on sheer willpower, Qin Yu managed to stand. He shuffled forward, picking up speed—faster and faster—until his body lurched forward. He smashed through the glass and then leaped from the third floor. Zhang Xiaofei watched Qin Yu fall from the sky and froze for a moment—Qin Yu actually landed safely and steadily on the back seat of the Jeep. “Holy shit, Yuzi, you’re fucking amazing! How the hell did you land so precisely?” “I’ve got a scope, so shut up and just drive.” Zhang Xiaofei slammed his foot down on the gas pedal, and the car shot forward with a whoosh, weaving through ambulances and police cars—which, to their surprise, didn’t react in time. Just like that, they made it out of the county town without a scratch. “Yuzi, I know you’re awesome, but I’m pretty damn awesome too. After you finish that call, I’ll take this little car and just keep speeding all the way. Oh, and I must’ve been speeding when we passed that intersection the other day—you’ll have to reimburse me for that ticket later!” Once they were out of the county, Zhang Xiaofei let out a sigh of relief and started talking a mile a minute. “Oh, and that’s not even the main point. The main thing is, I was worried you wouldn’t know I was here, so I secretly set a fire right in this lobby. That definitely helped you out a lot, didn’t it? No need to say it, bro! That’s what loyalty’s all about! Just don’t forget to reimburse me for that fine later.” Zhang Xiaofei kept rambling on and on, but Qin Yu had gone silent. This startled him, and he hurriedly called out, “Yuzi! Yuzi! Qin Yu!” “Stop yapping—I’m not going to die! I’m exhausted. Let me rest a bit.” The flames at Honghan Restaurant grew dimmer and dimmer until they finally died out completely. Everyone thought the matter was over. A little while later, an ambulance arrived and carried several bodies out of Honghan Restaurant—a sight that was truly shocking. The bodies were covered up tightly, as if to prevent anyone from realizing these weren’t burn injuries but gunshot wounds. “Mr. Lin, I don’t think the police can do anything about Qin Yu either.” Lin Hao’s assistant spoke cautiously. Ever since the old butler at Lin Hao’s home had been brutally murdered, those of them who served Lin Hao had become increasingly careful with their words, terrified that they might become the next old butler. Lin Hao glanced at his assistant and flashed an eerie smile, sending a chill down the assistant’s spine. “Do you think I still need to kill Qin Yu?” Lin Hao asked. “What do you think, sir?” “Of course he has to die. That little guy’s growth is too astonishing, but I don’t think he should die by my hand. I’m still keeping him in check—he’s useful to me,” Lin Hao said eloquently. “Do you mean we should deal with Yang Yong, sir?” the assistant asked. “Of course. Qin Yu is in the open while I’m in the shadows. Yang Yong won’t know it was me who told his second-in-command that Qin Yu was coming back today. All he’ll know is that Qin Yu killed his third and second-in-command. As for Qin Yu? He doesn’t have time to deal with me right now—he and the Fire Scorpion Gang are sworn enemies.” As Lin Hao spoke these words, his expression remained as benevolent as ever, yet his words were truly chilling. “That guy Yang Yong—I’ve dealt with him a few times, and that one time he actually figured out I’d send someone to assassinate him. Qin Yu probably won’t make it back alive, though who knows? I was pretty sure Qin Yu would die today too, but didn’t he manage to escape alive?” The assistant nodded, feigning attentive listening, and Lin Hao continued, “Since Yang Yong knows what I’m capable of, there’s no way we’ll ever coexist peacefully with him in the future. Let Qin Yu go and clip his wings first—it’s not a bad thing for us.” “But sir, what about Miss Xiaorui?” “Don’t worry. I raised that girl myself. She can’t live without me—at least not yet. After all, her true value hasn’t been fully realized yet.” “A storm is brewing in Jiangcheng. Let’s head back.”
